Nothofagus alessandrii (Ruil) is an endemic species of the Maule Region, cataloged as in danger of extinction. Postfire and in 11 permanent plots with Ruil, the regeneration of Pinus radiata D. Don in the communes of Empedrado and Constitución was quantified. An abundance of 106,666 pine plants per hectare was estimated after 10 months after the fire. Changes in the composition and structure of Ruil remnants are suggested due to the great abundance of pine trees inside. The implementation of programs aimed at the recovery, conservation and restoration of the species and its habitat is urgent.
