Abstract

Invasive alien species (IAS) generate biodiversity loss and negative effects on human societies. There is a consensus about the necessity to have regulatory frameworks and legislations at global, regional or local scale. In Chile, there is an incipient development of these frameworks as well as the knowledge necessary to their implementation. In this study, we provide a synthesis of the control, prevention and management measures that have been conducted in our country focusing on three priority points: (I) creation of a Dynamic national list of exotic species, (II) participation of society in the formulation and application of public policies and (III) propper funds to develop scientific research on invasive alien species. These points would allow the construction of regulatory frameworks that allow an efficient management of this problem.
